We are enjoying a great summer in the West End. Our seniors have been busy this year volunteering, helping neighbors, and hosting family and friends. The Farm2Table Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for 55+ is every Friday at 9:30 a.m. Shop local fresh produce on a donation basis.
The Lutsen 99er kicks off our summer season. Look for volunteers wearing Zumba jingle skirts and welcoming riders with Latin flair at the Pancore and Sawbill Road aid station No. 2 and No. 5 in Tofte. You can join us by calling 663-7977 to volunteer.
At the Tofte 4th of July we will have breakfast pizzas for sale at Birch Grove Center during the Tofte Trek 8-11 a.m. for $5. Coffee and juice is also for sale.
Then at Tofte Park we will have a parade boat float to launch our W.E. Connect name change campaign for Lutsen, Schroeder, and Tofte townships. Our parade float will share our new logo and swag with West End friends, while seniors sell root beer floats at the fire hall. The board of directors will also staff a table in front of the Tofte Post Office to answer questions about the West End’s premier community, recreation, and senior center from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
We have extremely exciting news to share about Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation granting $25,000 in equipment and capacity building for our community center. You can learn more this summer as our seniors host community lunch for all visitors and guest to join them. Meals are $5 every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. RSVPs are required.
If you prefer evening fun our W.E. Pizza parties are from 5-8 p.m. every Wednesday. A $5 dough-nation gets you dough, sauce, and cheese cooked in a wood fired oven with a bring-yourown topping option.
This year our local, regional, and business community has supported over $70,000 in grant initiatives. You don’t want to miss using the West End’s community, recreation, and senior center amenities, programs, and services. Join us Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Call 663-7977 today to volunteer your time and talents and help us support evening and weekend expansion options for increased access.
Save the date August 15, 2015, 2-8 p.m., as we celebrate Birch Grove Foundation’s 30th Anniversary: A Year to Remember! This free community celebration is open to everyone to honor our past as we go “Back to the Future: 1985-2015.”
