Sometime between 8 p.m. on Monday, July 29 and Tuesday at 8 a.m. kids or presumably young adults were spinning gravel circles in the Cornerstone Community Church parking lot when one of the rocks thrown up by a tire shattered the glass of one side of the front door of the church.
Pastor Dale McIntire said he realizes that it’s fun to whip circles and throw rocks with a vehicle, but said he has cautioned kids in the past about doing it in the church parking lot because of the damage it causes to the lot and the chance something worse would happen.
The broken glass was “something worse.”
“It was only a matter of time before this happened,” he said as he pointed to the door.
Cost to replace the glass door is in excess of $1,000. He was getting estimates on the damage Tuesday morning and he was waiting for a deputy to come by from the sheriff ’s office to make a formal complaint.
“I’m hoping parents can talk to their kids about this and caution them about engaging in this type of activity in our church parking lot. I have talked to kids who I have caught doing this in the past and it hasn’t done much good. The last time I caught someone and asked them to stop, the next morning there was zucchini with a condom on it placed at the front door.
“I certainly understand how much fun this is. We don’t hate the kids that are doing this, but it can’t happen here anymore.”
