From the Hack

at the Cook County Curling Club

Above: Curling is a little bit like shuffleboard and chess played on the ice. Note the concentration of Brian Smith as he releases his rock. His wife, Joanne, and teammate Don Hammer are ready to sweep the ice when Brian tells them to. Hard sweeping keeps the rock straight, letting up, or not sweeping, allows the rock to curl, hence the name curling.

The curling season has been going along quite well with some very close games being played.

On November 22, there was a very good game of curling played between the Bill Parish rink and Brian Smith rink at the Cook County Curling Club. The game was tied in the second end and again in the sixth end, making it a fun and close game. The game went into an extra end and was won by the Smith rink with Skip Brian Smith scoring in the ninth end.

The public is always welcome to come watch! Games start at 6:30 p.m. on each evening.
