The Cook County Curling Club was busy last weekend, March 9-10, with 22 teams taking part in the Charles J. Futterer Sr. Memorial Open Bonspiel.

This fun-filled event was a family affair with a wide range of ages playing and lots of intergenerational interaction—and action!

There were 15 teams from outside Cook County that traveled to Grand Marais to take part and seven local teams. Participants said the gathering was like the Fisherman’s Picnic of the curling world—a big reunion. There was lots of reminiscing of the “old club” and past and future curlers talked about the future of the Cook County club.

The Ron Kowalchuk team from Thunder Bay, Canada won the “A” Event for the fourth time. Runners up were the Colleen Holbeck team of Two Harbors.

The Ron Gervais Sr. team of Grand Marais won the “B” Event. Runners-up were Rhonda Studier-Sve of Two Harbors.

The Kelly Swearingen team of Grand Marais team won the “C” Event. Runners-up were the Rory Smith team of Grand Marais.
