From the Hack

at the Cook County Curling Club

The Cook County Curling Club started its second half of the season on the 7th of January. Some teams have been added to some of the leagues and there are new members learning the sport and playing with experienced curlers.

The play down winners for the first half of the season were the George Maruska team. That team will be playing against the second half winners at the end of the curling season.

The club was delighted to host the 6,000th game of curling for Ron Gervais Sr. on January 14, 2013. In the early 60’s Ron played his first game in the old curling club (that burned in the late 80’s) and has been playing ever since.

Of course like any true athlete, he remembers highlights of games that he has played and shares those memories when given the opportunity. He has a treasure trove of pictures, trophies and curling apparel for his efforts.

To celebrate his 6,000th game, members of the curling club enjoyed having cake with Ron and challenged him to make a 1,000 more, if possible. He loves the game and plans to keep playing as long as he can. Congratulations Ron!
