The Cook County Curling Club is finishing up its first half of the curling season with an in-house competition for Open League champs before the holidays. The Pete Gresczyk rink and the George Maruska rink were the top contenders for the spot based on wins and losses through the first half of the season. Through the process of elimination however, the underdog Bill Bockovich rink is playing the George Maruska rink for the championship.
The curling club has been happy to see so many new faces at the club. The new members have been matched with more experienced curlers so they are able to learn the game. Most of the new members will be playing in the second season, which will start January 7, 2013.
The curling club is especially pleased with how successful the Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening Mixed Leagues have been.
The Curling Club is preparing for the second season and has contacted people who have been waiting to curl and are forming or placing them on teams. New members are always welcome. If you are interested in learning more about the game of curling, please contact Joanne Smith at (218) 387-2052 for more information.
Information is also available on the club’s website at www.cookcountycurlingclub.com.
The Cook County Curling Club wishes News-Herald readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
