The Cook County Curling Club kicked its curling season off with its second annual Halloween bonspiel this past weekend. A good time was had by all and there were some very competitive games played by the teams.
The winners of the “A” event were the Pete Gresczyk rink from Grand Marais. Runners-up were the Bob Hedstrom rink from St. Paul/Grand Marais.
Winners of the “B” event were the Julie Smith rink from St. Paul and runners-up were the George Maruska rink from Grand Marais.
The curling club would like to thank American Legion Post 413, Sven & Ole’s Pizza and the Harbor Light for their support. Club Secretary Joann Smith said their participation greatly enhance the tournament. Smith said, “It is greatly appreciated.”
The club’s open house dates were very well attended by individuals interested in giving curling a try. Some of those people have been connected with teams and are currently playing on leagues. Some interested people had commitments this fall and will play the second season, which starts early in January.
Smith said, “It was great to have such a strong turnout and to see the enthusiasm to try a new sport.”
The curling club is very pleased that its membership is growing and is encouraged by the interest. If you missed the open house dates and are interested in curling, please check out the club website at www.cookcountycurlingclub.com to get more information and contact a board member.
“We would be happy to help you experience curling,” said Smith.
