From Sri Lanka to the North Shore for Fisherman’s Picnic

It’s impossible to say who came the farthest for Fisherman’s Picnic this year, but a safe bet would be Pradeep Sugathadasa, who came all the way from Sri Lanka for his Cook County High School Class of 1983 30-year reunion. (L-R): Kathy (Patten) Adamsson, Becky (Shold) Strom, Nadine Maki, Pradeep Sugathadasa, and Mike Erickson.

It’s impossible to say who came the farthest for Fisherman’s Picnic this year, but a safe bet would be Pradeep Sugathadasa, who came all the way from Sri Lanka for his Cook County High School Class of 1983 30-year reunion.

Sri Lanka is a large island off the coast of India. Pradeep lived with Dick and Bonnie Swanson as a foreign exchange student when Swansons’ kids, Brian and Lynn, were juniors in high school.

According to 1983 classmate Becky (Shold) Strom, Pradeep decided at the last minute to fly to the U.S. for the reunion. He has a family in Sri Lanka but came alone. Becky said Emily Thomas of Hawaii and Beret (Borson) Nelson of Alaska were vying to be the classmate traveling the farthest for the reunion, but they were upstaged by Pradeep.
