‘Friday Night Reels’ returns to GM library

Grand Marais Public Library announces the return of “Friday Night Reels,” a film series that takes place at the library each Friday at 6 p.m. starting Jan. 3, 2020, and lasting until March 6. The films are thoughtfully selected to inspire discussion. Light snacks are provided by the Library Friends of Cook County.

This year’s first film is Blade Runner. Originally released in 1982, this sci-fi classic is set in a dystopian, 21st century Los Angeles. Harrison Ford plays a cop, named Rick Deckard, who agrees to hunt down rogue Nexus-6 androids posing as humans.

The film gathered a cult following, and is noted for helping revive the film noir style of crime movies. We will be showing the director’s cut, which removes the voice-over narration and forced happy ending. Viewers will enjoy the nostalgic experience while considering what Ridley Scott got right about the year 2019.

No sign-up is required to attend this event, but seating is limited. The films selected for this series are intended to appeal to adult audiences and may not be suitable for young viewers. For a full list of films, visit www.grandmaraislibrary.org.

Cancellations due to severe weather will be listed on the website. Grand Marais Public Library thanks the Library Friends of Cook County for their generous and continued support in providing this program.
