We were shocked when our new BIDEN/HARRIS sign was stolen within six hours of posting it, especially since they’re in short supply. We spent many hours painting a wooden replacement sign, which my husband mounted on a heavy base and secured along the roadside. It, too, was gone within hours.
We were furious.
Then my anger turned to sadness.
Sadness that we can’t respect one another.
Sadness that my faith in the goodness of humanity has been shaken.
Sadness that in this great country where our freedoms are so treasured, someone is stealing my freedom of speech.
We all feel frustration with our government, whether it’s the inability of our senators and representatives to compromise or whether we disagree with the decisions being made. I think we’re all frustrated, too, with the divisiveness we see in this country over Black Lives Matter, the wearing of masks, and support for law enforcement.
I have a sinking feeling that the culprits stealing our signs are also waving Law and Order flags. Ironic, isn’t it? At least five BIDEN/HARRIS signs have disappeared from the Gunflint Trail above Grand Marais. What a sad day— and what a stain on the Trump campaign.
Maybe people have been stealing TRUMP signs, too. I don’t know.
What I do know is that it’s time for ALL of us to be respectful of each others’ views and to support every person’s right to free speech.
Let’s STOP STEALING SIGNS and instead voice our opinions through our ballots.
VOTE!!!
