Freedom of speech doesn’t mean the right to say anything

Bob, I’m with you – I’m as tired of writing letters to the editor as you are of reading them. However, I would like to state that I am not trying to get letter writer Geri Jensen to accept my beliefs. I have been trying to keep her from persuading people that the founding fathers were not religious and that there is nothing in the Constitution that governs our country that has permanent value.

The Constitution, taken without remembering where and why it was written, can be weakened.

Example: “freedom of speech” was included to stop government from punishing people who disagreed with their actions. Now it has been stretched to “the right to say anything about anything or anybody at any time.”

That is not the only example of what has already been done and if enough people fall for the fallacy that there should be no permanent restrictions on our personal freedom this country will fall.

Lastly, Geri, I have not quoted a single Bible passage in my letters. I can’t imagine what your past life has been to make you hate (that is the feeling I get) the very idea of God, but my prayers are with you.
