Learning Opportunities Through Stories (LOTS) is a free reading program for children birth to age 5. The goal of the program is to get children excited about books and learning to love to read.
A stay at home mom who attended last year’s sessions with her daughter liked the program because being new to the area, she wanted to meet other parents and was looking for fun activities to do with her daughter. “The best part of the program was watching my child interact and play with other children that participated.”
At each of the seven sessions, we will read a book, hear stories and share in a fun activity. Then each child gets to take home a copy of the featured book. Board books with a similar theme will be given to the younger children. Siblings older than age 5 are welcome to attend and will also be given a free book.
The first sessions in each community are: Sawtooth Mountain Elementary School (ECFE room 446), Grand Marais, June 13 at 5:30 p.m.
The next stop is at Oshki Ogimaag Community School (K/1st grade room), Grand Portage, June 15 at 10 a.m.
And finally, LOTS will be coming to Birch Grove Community Center (under the pavilion), Tofte, June 19 at 5 p.m.
Registration is encouraged, though not required, so we can ensure that there are enough books for everyone. For more information or to register, contact Trisha Scamehorn at 218-834- 8403 or Trisha.Scamehorn@co.lake. mn.us.
The North Shore Health Care Foundation and the North Shore Collaborative generously support the LOTS program in these communities.
