Forest Service plans fire safety open houses

The Gunflint and Tofte Ranger Districts on the Superior National Forest invite the public to learn about fire management and fire awareness during a series of open houses planned in May.

At each open house, there will be displays and presentations about using wildland fire for resource benefit; projected 2015 fire outlook; Fire Wise information; 2015 planned prescribed burning in the Superior National Forest; U.S. Forest Service Fire Resources Available for 2015 (personnel, equipment, aviation); and wildland fire preparedness. Each open house will also offer an opportunity for questions and answers.

All open houses will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on the following days: May 4 at the Finland Volunteer Fire Department; May 11 at the Gunflint Ranger Station, 2020 Highway 61 in Grand Marais; and May 12 at the Schaap Community Center, 7401 Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais.

Questions may be directed to the Forest Service at (218) 626-4393.
