Football team falls to Mountain Iron-Buhl



The Vikings football team made the long road trip to face conference opponent Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) last Thursday and came home with their second loss of the season, falling 52-8.

MIB often scored on big plays that covered 40 yards, 54 yards, 46 yards, 59 yards and 46 yards.

The Rangers opened with two scores and converted both two-point tries to take a 16-0 lead after the first quarter. The first touchdown came on a 14-yard run and the second on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Second-quarter action saw the Rangers put up 28 more points and go into halftime up 44-0. The Rangers scored on a one-yard pass for a touchdown, a 54-yard fumble recovery that was picked up and carried into the endzone by a defensive end, a 46-yard touchdown pass, and a 59-yard dash to the paydirt during the second quarter.

Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Vikings finally got into the endzone in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Paul Dorr to Ryan Christiansen. Ray Dressely ran in the two-point conversion. MIB’s last points came off of a 46-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion run.

The Vikings gained 184 yards on the ground. Ray Dressely ran for 67 yards on 23 carries. Paul Dorr rushed 17 times for 62 yards. Ryan Christiansen carried four times for 16 yards and Kole Anderson ran three times for 15 yards. Viking quarterback Paul Dorr was two of nine passing for 24 yards. Paul completed a three-yard pass to Ray Dressely and a 22-yard pass to Ryan Christiansen.

The Vikings ended with 174 yards of offense while MIB amassed 319 yards. The Vikings finished with ten first downs to nine for MIB, but MIB’s speedy backs ran for long touchdowns, so first downs were averted.

On the defensive side of the ball, Kole Anderson led with nine tackles. Ray Dressely had seven, Paul Dorr seven, Jacob Dorr five, Ryan Christiansen two and Arlo Christiansen one. Ryan Smith had a fumble recovery.

Rayce Gibson had five kickoff returns for 66 yards, one for 23 yards. Ray Dressely averaged 30.2 yards on kickoffs.

The Vikings ended with three penalties for a loss of 35 yards, while MIB was penalized four times for 55 yards.

The Vikings’ record is now 4-2 and 2-1 in the District 9 North (9 Man) Conference with the defeat. Both MIB and Cherry have no conference losses, and the Vikings are currently in third place.
