Folks gather to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Organized by Arrowhead Indivisible, as one of many nationwide vigils to honor the life, work, and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, nearly 40 people gathered on the steps of the Cook County Court House on the afternoon of Saturday, September 19.

Masks were required. Physical distancing was required.

Pat Campanaro read a tribute to the “Notorious RBG,” listing her amazing achievements as a tireless and resolute champion of justice. Ann Russ led us in a singing/humming of “Amazing Grace.” Hillary Freeman connected the event to the Jewish holiday of Havdalah with a message of hope and mercy. Jennifer Schulz led us in a respectful moment of silence. As one sign read: “She brought us this far. Now, it’s our turn.” As another person said: “Justice Ginsburg was one of the most amazing people of our lifetimes. She inspired countless people to be better, and she shattered glass ceilings long thought unbreakable. It’s a tragic loss for our country. May she rest in peace.”
