A new store will soon be opening in Grand Marais that features outdoor clothing and guided fly-fishing trips.
The store’s owner, Scott Sorenson is an avid outdoorsman and an experienced fly fishing guide. He is currently working long hours to finish the 640-square-foot store located in downtown Grand Marais on First Avenue West between Joy & Company and the building that houses Gunflint Mercantile, Country Insurance and Chuck’s Barber Shop.
Sorenson has named his business Fly Box & Company.
The building is unique: Sorenson re-purposed two shipping containers siding them with rustic barn wood to create the new space. Large windows will be used for natural lighting and to display merchandise. Currently Sorenson is working to finish the interior, but he hopes to be open as soon as possible.
When asked if he will keep the business open year round, Sorenson replied, “I might close it on the shoulder seasons, but I do expect to be open some in the winter months. Just what my hours of business will be, I can’t tell you right now.”
Sorenson said he would stock the store with “curated fine goods from heritage brands like Orvis and Patagonia.” He is also seeking other brands to carry, and his business will evolve as he learns more about what his customers need and want to see him stock.
