Floyd Pearson, Grand Marais, died September 18.
Floyd spent his childhood on Big Bay in Hovland, MN. After graduation from Cook County High School, he attended the University of Minnesota and then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war. In the 1970’s, Floyd returned to the north shore to start a logging, sawmilling and construction business, Big Bay Forest Products, which he operated until his retirement.
Collecting old cars was Floyd’s lifelong passion. He also earned a private pilot’s license, made wine, loved to travel- especially on his Gold Wing, and was a great conversationalist.
Floyd gave a lot of himself to his community. He coached Little League, cooked shrimp boils at the Congregational Church, and donated to many charities. He was an advocate for conservation and wildlife; he loved to caw at ravens as they flew by.
Floyd was loved and will be missed by Diane; son Dave and his family – Brooks, D’Marte and Na’Omi ; siblings- Charlotte, Ione and David; extended family and friends.
