Florence H. Lalli, 89, formerly of Tofte, passed away May 8, 2014 at the Cook County Care Center in Grand Marais.
Florence was born Oct. 1, 1924 in Graceton to John and Anna (Hiltonen) Lalli, the youngest of nine children. She first came to Cook County in 1955, returning to stay in 1983. She worked at many Tofte businesses including Edgewater Inn, Sugar Beach, Olsen’s Motel and Gift Shop, the North Shore Market and Lutsen Resort.
Florence moved to Grand Marais in 2004, where she enjoyed all her friends at Sawtooth Ridges Apartments, crocheting and her true love, cribbage. She liked nothing better than a friendly game or two with whoever was up to the challenge.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents and all eight of her siblings: Art Lalli, Alice Roberts, Ed Lalli, Mathilda Anderson, Esther Webber, Wilmer Lalli, Hylma Johnson and Lilly Jorgenson.
She is survived by a special niece, Florence (Punky) Webber of Walla Walla, Washington, and many other nieces and nephews whom she had lost contact with over the years, and many dear friends (too many to mention) whom she self-appointed as her family. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by so many.
There will be an informal gathering in celebration of Florence’s life in the Sawtooth Ridges social room, 701 W. Fifth St., Grand Marais from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Everyone is invited to come and share a light lunch and favorite memories.
A graveside service will be held at the Tofte Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31.
