Grand Marais Public Library is pleased to announce it has once again achieved 5-star ranking in the annual Library Journal Star Libraries standings. Baudette Public Library and Ely Public Library both earned 5-star designations this year, and Two Harbors Public Library earned 4-star status giving Arrowhead Library System 4 of the 5 libraries in Minnesota to achieve this benchmark. Grand Marais Library Director Amanda St. John commented, “It’s tremendously exciting to see our libraries’ commitment to the public and high-quality library service reflected in this report.”
Library Journal’s 2021- star rankings are based on data collected by the Institute of Museum and Library Services during the 2019 fiscal year. Metrics include the number of people who visit the library, the number of items that circulate, the number of Wi-Fi connections and uses of computers in the library, all relative to the base population of the community. In 2017, Grand Marais library became one of only 13 libraries in the country to receive the status 10 years in a row. Said St. John, “We statistically rise in rank for a variety of reasons, but it’s our community’s and staff’s love for this library that makes it such a desirable and magnetic place to be.”
