Supporters of the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum took to the water on Tuesday, August 16, participating in a cruise to see some of the historic sites commemorated at the museum in Tofte.
Forty-eight people enjoyed hearing stories about growing up in commercial fishing families from Mickey Lorntson and Walt Sve. As the cruise on the Wenonah traversed the Lake Superior shoreline, the men talked about the life of a commercial fisherman and pointed out a number of fish houses.
Tofte Historical Society President Virginia Reiner welcomed guests and shared some maritime-themed poems.
Delicious appetizers provided by Historical Society Vice President Ginny Storlie were enjoyed under clear skies and smooth seas. A perfect backdrop to hear about the daring adventures of North Shore fishermen!
Coming up next at the Commercial Fishing Museum is a celebration of the museum’s 20th anniversary. The public is invited to the museum plaza for some “fishy fun.” There will be songs, storytelling around a campfire, kids’ games, fishcakes, outdoor exhibits, tours of the museum and more.
