“Some big king salmon have been caught in Lake Superior, and nice catches of bass, walleye and northern are being taken in the smaller inland lakes,” said Tyson Cronberg of the Beaver House.
Good lakes to try inland include Devil Track, Clearwater, Greenwood, Mink, Trout, Elbow and Two Island.
Lake Superior Coho salmon and lake trout are being caught using spoons in the top 50 feet of water. Vertical jigs are working to catch lake trout in deeper water.
Trolling crank baits, live-bait rigs, spoons and jigs with minnows are working well to catch bass, northern and walleye. Even a bobber and hook fitted with a night crawler or leech will entice the fish to bite. Northerns tend to hit fast moving spoons while top-water pugs work well to catch bass.
Like the weather, brook trout fishing is hot right now, noted Tyson. Brook trout can be found in local streams large and small, and some ponds as well. Use spinners, night crawlers or worms in brushy areas and flies if you can find a nice beaver pond to cast into. Streams to try include Kadunce, Elbow, Little Devil Track, Big Devil Track, Cascade, and Kimball.
Bring plenty of insect repellant. If the fish, for some reason, aren’t biting, you can make darn sure the mosquitos are. Remember, it’s the bug’s season to get their limit of humans. Don’t get caught, if you can help it.
