This week, the first death due to COVID-19 in Lake County occurred. The resident was in their 80s.
“The individual was a citizen of Lake County and we mourn this loss and feel that as a community,” said Rich Sve, Chair of the Lake County Board of Commissioners. “Our hearts go out to this individual’s family and friends, and to all people who have suffered the loss of a loved one during these times of distance when we can’t practice our customary means of gathering with and consoling loved ones.”
With COVID-19 cases and deaths rising across the state, the respiratory illness is still a critical public health risk. Just yesterday, new statewide restrictions on bars, restaurants and social gatherings went into effect. Lake County residents are urged to do their part by following the new restrictions and COVID-19 prevention measures, including wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and frequent and thorough hand washing. Everyone needs to take action to help stop the spread and prevent more deaths, if possible.
“We can’t say we expected to be immune to COVID-19 deaths in Lake County, but this is a day that we hoped to avoid as long as possible,” said Lisa Hanson, Lake County Health & Human Services. “There is a natural desire to learn more about this individual and how we might be impacted. However, due to federal HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) legislation which safeguards medical information, further details about the individual or their location cannot be released.”
