Fireman said we should have tolerance

This letter is in response to the recent letter of June 5 regarding the Colvill Fire Department. I first want to correct that letter as I, the fireman, was misquoted by the two women, aka “name withheld.”

In response to their inquiry as to why Susan Thompson was working the front table at the pancake breakfast, my actual response was, “I do not have a problem with it and couldn’t we all have just a little more tolerance?”

Susan was working at the breakfast table as she has done for the past three years because she is, and will continue to be, a member of the Colvill Fire Department’s board of directors. She was instrumental in establishing our tri-annual newsletter and directs its publishing and mailing. She volunteers her time to the department and we appreciate it.

Our intent was not to flaunt anything at anyone at the breakfast but, make no mistake, this is not an apology for her being there. Theonly sad part of this whole thing is that the two women from Colvill who wrote that letter couldn’t seem to summon up the backbone or the intestinal fortitude to sign their names to it.

Name printed by request.
Paul McFarlane

Assistant chief, board chairman, Colvill Fire

Department
