A Grand Portage man is lucky to be alive after his stove exploded and burned his house down.
Larry Spry told authorities that when he turned his stove on flames burst from it. Spry suffered non-life threatening burns as he escaped. A nearby neighbor reported hearing the explosion from the stove. Larry was taken to North Shore Health to be checked and was released.
Responding to the Monday, August 10 fire were the Grand Portage, Colville and Hovland fire departments. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 5:15 p.m. with the Collvill Fire Department leaving at that time. Grand Portage and Hovland firefighters left by 7:41 p.m. when the fired was out.
The state fire marshal has been contacted to investigate the cause of the fire.
