If you have two bucks to spare and a passion for serving the city of Grand Marais, you can opt to run for one of four city positions that are up for election this fall.
Grand Marais Mayor Jay Arrowsmith-DeCoux was busy filing his papers for a third term on Wednesday, August 1. Two years ago Jay was camping and forgot to register. In fact, no one filed for mayor during the twoweek period to file and Jay was reelected as a write-in candidate.
City councilors up this year are Anton Moody, Kelly Swearingen, and Jonathan Steckelberg.
Both Swearingen and Steckelberg are new to the council this summer. They replaced Tracy Benson who left to take a new job in the Twin Cities, and Dave Mills, who moved out of the city and therefore wasn’t eligible to remain on the city council.
The filing period to run for these seats began July 31 and ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14.
If you would like to run for a city council or the mayor position, the cost is $2 to file at City Hall.
The election will be held November 6, 2018.
