To help promote positive change in our community, The NorthWoods Fiber Guild donated the first round of handmade cloth bags to the Grand Marais Public Library. Nancy Backlund made the donation of 16 cotton bags to Amanda St. John on Wednesday, August 1.

The bags were sewn with the intent to be distributed to library patrons checking out many books in lieu of plastic bags. The Fiber Guild is aiming to persuade book lovers not to use plastic bags to help keep our lakes clean.

Spearheaded by Jo Woods, the Guild intends to continue to create and donate several sets of bags to the library. This effort is greatly appreciated by library staff, who has been encouraging the use of recycled bags for several years.
