The Grand Marais Public Library will present Felting 2016 by the Duluth Art Institute, a free program being offered at 6 p.m. Jan. 6 at the library.
This intergenerational program by a team of three artists is back by popular demand! Locally dyed and harvested fibers will be added to a wool canvas to create a truly distinctive painting. Participants will also learn to experiment with colors, textures and techniques unique to needle felting.
Chrissy Velento has been teaching in the Duluth Public Schools for the past 17 years and has been involved with the Duluth Art Institute since 2007. She feels the arts are a crucial way for kids to learn and express themselves.
Sharon Cousino served as the education director for the Duluth Art Institute for over 10 years before joining the University of Wisconsin’s Department of Visual Arts as a senior lecturer. Cousino’s enthusiasm for art bleeds into her lecture and workshops, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Amy Varsek is the current education director at the Duluth Art Institute and brings a passion for sharing and creating art with others.
