Norshor Insurance Agency will match the first $1,000 that comes in before December 15 from North Shore businesses for the “Feed My Starving Children” mission project. Local fundraisers so far have been a grilling competition and a luncheon at the Evangelical Free Church Christmas Open House.
As of December 1, about $5,000 has been raised. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match the first $10,000 raised by December 15.
The goal is to raise $38,000 for two packaging events, said Gary Zinter. Each food-packaging event needs 500 volunteers to package 100,000 bags. The events will be Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Two Harbors Arena and Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Cook County Community Center.
Zinter said nearly 18,000 children die each day from starvation or starvation-related causes. “As we approach the Christmas seasons, won’t you make a pledge of 19 cents per meal or more until the North Shore/Duluth reaches its goal?”
To contribute to the Norshor Challenge to businesses, please make checks payable to Feed My Starving Children and mail them to Gary Zinter, 69 Nelson Dr, Silver Bay MN 55614.
