U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and Rep. Rick Nolan have announced that nearly $1 million will be earmarked for the implementation of Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program. The program is a voluntary federal-state partnership that helps protect and restore coastal resources along Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior.
The $969,000 in federal funding will support jobs in the region and help address a number of critical coastal issues, including storm water and water quality management, coastal community development, and public access.
“Lake Superior is a treasured part of Minnesota’s heritage and an important source of economic development for our state,” Klobuchar said. “This support will help ensure that communities along the North Shore have the resources they need to protect the shoreline and ensure that Minnesotans will be able to enjoy everything Lake Superior has to offer for generations to come.”
“Lake Superior is vitally important to the economic security, cultural heritage, and quality of life in Minnesota,” Franken said. “These resources will make critical improvements to the North Shore and make sure that Lake Superior is preserved for generations of Minnesotans to come.”
“The beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior is a precious natural resource that not only enhances our quality of life throughout the region but also draws tens of thousands of visitors every year who support our tourism economy, good jobs, and business activity,” Nolan said. “This program will help assure the beauty and integrity of the North Shore for many generations to come.”
