Two federal agencies are awarding over $2.2 million in federal grants to combat poverty and homelessness in northeast Minnesota, Congressman Jim Oberstar has announced.
The funding will support a range of programs, which supplement food, shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance for lowincome people.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is awarding $18.2 million to 141 individual programs in Minnesota; programs in Northeast Minnesota will receive $1.8 million of that amount. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will make almost $3 million in grants to Minnesota programs, $450,000 of which will fund programs in Northeast Minnesota.
Locally, Cook and Lake counties will receive $98,019 for their transitional housing program administered through Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency.
