Fanny Coburn Bertrand Sylvester, 84, of Grand Marais died on Friday, November 11, 2011.
She was born on November 16, 1926 to Richard and Ann (Gross) Bertrand in Superior, WI. She grew up on a farm in Dairyland and graduated from Central High School in Superior.
Fanny married William Junior Sylvester soon after high school and started their family of six children, making their home in Grand Marais.
Fanny was a working mother who waited tables and cooked at the Rustic Café and Mable’s Café. In her later years, she was a clerk at Joynes Ben Franklin until her retirement.
Her passions included her flower garden, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafts. She worked year round making gifts for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Roy Fisher; daughter BilliSue; and husband
William.
Fanny is survived by a sister Betty McConnell of Superior, WI; daughter Bonnie (Noble) Carlson of Grand Portage; four sons, Dennis of Alabama, Leonard (Shirley) of Grand Portage, Jeff (Annette) of Grand Marais, and Tod of Grand Marais; a total of 35 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
