Family escapes injury in minivan rollover




A family from Winona, Minn. escaped serious injury when their vehicle left the roadway and rolled over just east of the Cook – Lake county line on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

The first report to Cook County Law Enforcement reported a vehicle in the ditch, possibly with a trailer. A second call reported two vehicles in the ditch. However, it was determined that the accident involved just one vehicle, a 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport minivan, driven by Gary L. Schmitz, 44, of Winona.

Schmitz was injured, but according to the Minnesota State Patrol, his injuries were non-life-threatening. He was wearing his seatbelt.

The other occupants of the vehicle, Lori A. Schmitz, 42, Chastity A. Schmitz, 22, and two minor children, all also of Winona, Minn. suffered no apparent injury. They were all wearing seatbelts.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol the road was wet when the accident occurred.
