As summer is winding down we are feeling the coolness in the air. With that, we locals realize that in just a month there is a break in the economy and soon we can focus on hobbies, reading, and other activities we have put off until summer’s end. At the Senior Center we are trying to encourage you to try something new, a hobby, places to see, or gathering with new friends.
This month Betsy Bowen is opening up her studio and expertise to us, showing us how she creates her beautiful art. Later in the month, we will try our hand at linoleum block printmaking. Join us, and get a head start on your Christmas cards!
Did you know the Senior Center is starting a book club? We meet the third Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at the center. This month’s book is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. The setting is in World War II with the lives of two sisters who in their own way make a difference in the devastation around them. Discussion centers on characters, plot, writing style, and anything else that compels us to share.

Trips and travel this month takes us to the Duluth Depot and lunch at Red Lobster. The National Railroad Museum, Ojibwa gallery, Art Institute, Veterans Memorial Hall, Forest Industry Museum, wood carving and ballet exhibits, the Immigration room, and the County Built on Iron exhibit are housed in the Duluth Depot building.
Everyone’s favorite is the fall color tour trips, not to disappoint; we will be doing a Fall Color Tour and lunch at Trestle Inn towards the end of the month.
We have two day-trips planned for the Grand Portage Casino leaving at 9:45 a.m. and returning at 2:30 p.m. Savings when the participation level reaches 12 participants.
Everyday activities at the center include cards/500, quilting, bingo, and Wii bowling!
