The residents at the North Shore Care Center have been enjoying extended patio time with all the nice fall weather we’ve been having. A leaf tour up the Gunflint Trail provided an opportunity to see some more of the beautiful fall colors.
When the weather isn’t cooperating, there is now plenty to watch from our dining room windows as construction has begun on the Care Center! We are delighted that the construction isn’t keeping our friends, families, and visitors from coming to see us. Our dance with Portage on Sept. 19 was well attended, and much fun was had by all. Thanks to the Portage Boys for navigating their equipment through our new entry!
October is now upon us, and we look forward to celebrating many events this month. On October 2, the residents will be busy making pizza as this is “National Pizza Month.” History and trivia sessions will be held on Leif Erickson and Columbus Day.
The monthly birthday party will be held on Wednesday, October 14 at 3 p.m. to honor Ophelia Bassett. Plenty of cake and ice cream will be served along with piano music by Doug Sanders. A special thank you to Eleanor Waha for providing a cake every month for the past 50-plus years for our birthday parties!
Our annual Oktoberfest celebration is a time to honor German-American Heritage Month. The Oktoberfest celebration will be held on October 16 with a traditional German dinner of sausage and sauerkraut, followed by polka music with Jim and Mary Schliep.
The Lioness Social will be held on the third Saturday of the month, October 17 at 3 p.m. There will be delicious desserts for everyone with favorite piano tunes by Irene Thompson.
An outing to the Senior Center for lunch is planned for October 22. It is always a treat to visit our many friends at the Senior Center.
Live music in the evenings will feature Myron Bursheim on Sundays; Irene Thompson on Mondays; Al Fuller on Tuesdays; and Susan Scherer on Wednesdays. Portage will be back again on October 24 at 6:30 p.m. to perform their classic country music. The residents are so grateful for the many talented musicians performing and volunteering on a regular basis at the Care Center. We invite family, friends, and community members to join in the fun at all of our music events.
The elders will be busy filling treat bags and making cupcakes for all our little visitors on Halloween night. A reminder that families are invited to stop by to “Trick or Treat” at the Care Center from 5-7 p.m. on Halloween night.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Bethlehem Lutheran quilters for the many beautiful quilts they have donated for the resident rooms here at the Care Center. They are such a beautiful addition to our rooms, and we sincerely appreciate your hard work.
