Summer is going by quickly for residents at the North Shore Health Care Center. We have been taking every opportunity for fun outdoor activities on our new patio, and other outings in the community.
It was a beautiful day on August 6 when several of the elders went to watch the Fisherman’s Picnic Parade. On August 21, a large group gathered on the patio to view the eclipse. Although there were a lot of clouds, the residents were able to catch occasional glimpses of the event. The afternoon got even better when Ken Netland showed up with smoked fish and crackers for everyone’s enjoyment. Thanks Ken, it was a real treat! We’re hoping for even more sunshine and fun in September!
The residents are able to enjoy a bit of sunshine indoors on those rainy days, thanks to Bill Simonowicz who donated some beautiful sunflowers from his fields. We want to thank Diane Nowers (our flower lady) for picking and arranging them, and also for providing us with flowers from her garden all summer long.
Our first outing of the month will be to Sawtooth Ridges for a picnic lunch, and to visit with our friends there. Sharon Bloomquist will provide the hot dogs, and Gary Houglum will be the grill master. The residents will be busy making pasta salad on September 13 for the event. Another outing is being planned for September 28 for a leaf tour on Maple Hill. Hopefully, the leaves will be at their majestic best.
The monthly birthday party will be held on September 13 at 3 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served, along with piano music by Doug Sanders. Thanks to Doug for the wonderful music every month, and Eleanor Waha for the delicious cake! This month we will honor Bernice Legarde, Helen Smith, Audrey Pollock, and Marcy Podas. All are welcome to join us for the party.
The Grand Marais Lioness Club will once again be hosting its monthly socials on the third Saturday of the month beginning September 16 at 3 p.m.
The residents want to thank our Incredible Exchange student, Grace Nonnemacher, who helped with activities on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the summer. She was a great help to the Activity Department and we’ll miss her. We also wish to thank the many wonderful volunteers who helped out over the busy summer months. You are the best!
