The Cook County Senior Center had several great fall excursions. On Wednesday, September 19, seniors headed to Gunflint Lodge for a delicious lunch and a wonderful, scenic and thrilling Gunflint Pines Canopy Tour. The tour lasted about two hours. Only four of our group of nine completed the tour. The oldest and best sport was Jo Tupper age 78. Thanks to everyone at Gunflint Lodge for a wonderful trip!

On Monday, October 1, the group headed to Lutsen Mountains for a ride on the gondola to the chalet at the top of Moose Mountain for lunch.

Back at the Senior Center, the final renovations are being completed. Tod Sylvester of Grand Marais is installing new flooring in our restrooms and entry. Tod very generously and graciously donated his time. His donation of time saved us approximately $2,000. This is a huge contribution and is much appreciated!

With the floors completed, our restrooms are being put back together finally. We have new handicap accessible stalls. It will be great to finally have both restrooms open. We would like to thank everyone who has visited the Senior Center these past few months for their patience and understanding during our remodeling.

Cook County residents recently received a new brochure in the mail. The center has been receiving a very positive response, but there is still a long way to go to reach our fundraising goal. Please consider opening your hearts and checkbooks to assist in supporting your local Senior Center by helping support our programs serving our community seniors.

Coming up for the Senior Center are some trips to Grand Portage. There will be Grand Portage Casino Express trips on Tuesday, October 9, a day trip, and Tuesday, October 16, an evening trip.

On Sunday, October 21, we will be going to Grand Portage to enjoy the Polka Fest to listen and possibly dance to the famous Chmielewski Fun Time Band. This is a free show and should be a lot of fun. Transportation is free plus you receive $5 in free slot play and $5 off any lunch entrée including the German Polka Platter.

For more information or for registration of any of these upcoming trips, stop in or call the Senior Center at (218) 387-2660.

The Cook County Senior Center is open and welcoming to all of all ages!
