On St. Patrick’s Day the Senior Center celebrated by gathering at the Cascade Lodge for a wonderful dinner, live music and a lot of laughter.
Coming up at the Senior Center we have a Scam Presentation with Sheriff Pat Eliasen scheduled for April 13. The public is encouraged to join us as Sheriff Eliasen shares information on the most popular scams to be aware of and what to do if you think you are being targeted. The presentation will start at 12:30 p.m., followed by time for questions from the public.
We have our next monthly Grand Portage Express trip planned for April 18. The bus will leave the Senior Center at 9:45 a.m. from the Senior Center and returns around 3:30 p.m. Transportation is free when boarding at the Senior Center and pickups are available in town for a $1.00 fee. Everyone who goes on this trip will receive $5 in free slot play, plus $5 off their meal in the dining room. Please register by stopping in or calling the Senior Center at 387-2660.
April kicks off the beginning of our monthly “Explore The Shore” trips. Many of us have driven up and down the North Shore, thinking to ourselves that someday we will stop at some of the shops, try one of the restaurants, visit a historic site, tour a brewery or maybe check out different hiking trails. We travel this road frequently, but in our daily rush, we do not stop to explore the many gems along the way.
On Saturday, April 30 we will take our first of a series of trips to explore the High Falls of Pigeon River. We will depart the Senior Center at 9 a.m. and return around 3 p.m. The cost of transportation from the Senior Center is $7 and after our visit to the Falls we will stop for lunch at the Grand Portage Dining Room which is at your own expense.
Please note that these trips require walking and some of them may be more strenuous than others. If you need assistance, please invite a companion to join you. If you have any questions, would like more information or want to register, contact Jes or Bev at the Senior Center at 218- 387-2660.
Coming up in May we have Marjori Bottila at the Senior Center for a 2016 Medicare Presentation and Individual Counseling Appointments. This is a free service and can help you figure out what is new and what the changes are for Medicare. She can help you better understand if any of the changes affect you and how you can better utilize the Medicare System. Individual Counseling appointments are available on Thursday, May 19 from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and on Friday, May 20.
