With most of the team done for the season, three members of the North Shore Rollers team attended the November 2 national amateur logrolling tournament held in Hudson, Wisconsin at the YMCA.

First up was Taylor Everson, who rolled in the U-7 co-ed division. Last year Taylor placed third, earning a bronze medal. But this year, with one more year of practice and tournaments behind her, Taylor rolled like a pro against her friend Libby Magnone and finished second and won a silver medal.

Taylor’s big sister Paige Everson faced some very stiff competition in the U10 division. Paige beat several very good log rollers to make the final and roll for the national championship. Paige rolled a tremendous match against Emma Magnone (Libby’s big sister), with Magnone winning 3 falls to 2 falls in a very entertaining, hard-fought match. All winners are determined by who first wins 3 of 5 falls.

Wellesley Howard-Larsen rolled in the U13 class and it turned into a topsy-turvy affair. All of the girls lost at least one match in the round-robin tournament and Wellesley was the only girl to beat Katelyn Potts of Hudson, who won the overall title. Based on falls, Wellesley tied for third, but she was awarded fourth place under the tiebreaker system and ended up just out of the medals.

Once again North Shore log rolling coach Jenny Atkinson traveled from Stillwater to cheer on and encourage her three young rollers. An eight-time world log rolling champion, Atkinson, who has a summer home on Clearwater Lake, is also a big fan favorite and assists wherever she is asked at tournaments.

While the season now ends, the North Shore Rollers will once again start up in January. This time, however, it won’t be at the Rec Park pool, but at the YMCA. Go rollers!
