As Colin Everson wraps up his college football career, he will leave the Minnesota Morris football team as the alltime sack leader. With one regular season game left to play, Everson, a 6-foot tall, 225-pound speedy defensive end, has 5.5 sacks so far this year. While he is still chasing the individual season record of 7.5 sacks Brady Janzen recorded in 2005, Everson is far and away the team’s all-time leader with 17.5 sacks to his credit.
And Everson will no doubt add to his total.
Colin was already in the Morris record book. In 2015 he recorded seven sacks to be listed in second place all time. His 2014 total of 5 sacks put him fourth on the same list, and Colin’s 13 tackles for a loss he recorded in 2015 put him in sixth place alltime in the “Sacks for a Loss” category.
During the Cougars’ last home game played Saturday, November 5, Everson made 10 tackles,
(six tackles for a loss) and had 1.5 sacks in the Cougars’ 41-28 win over Westminster. Not a bad showing on Senior Day.
The Cougars will wrap up their season on Saturday, November 12 against Maranatha Baptist.
The Cougars are 5-4 on the year. All five wins have come at home. Even if the Cougars don’t move on after the regular season, Colin will get one last chance to play football. He has been invited to play for Team Stars & Stripes, an American squad of select Division III college seniors. They will take on the CONADEIP All-Stars, a team of elite players from Mexican universities, in the eighth annual event. The game will be played in the Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of Stars) on December 17 in Mexicali, Mexico.
Colin is the son of Mitch and Cindy Everson, Grand Marais. He will graduate this spring with a degree in mathematics and secondary education along with a minor in coaching.
