Senior guard Colin Everson had an excellent season for Viking boys’ basketball, and conference coaches who named Colin to the Polar League All Conference First Team noted his consistently high play.
Colin’s back court teammate Kale Boomer was named to the Second Team for the second year in a row.
Everson joined four other guards on the First Team: Kyle Blood, Silver Bay; Erik Adams, Carlton; Casey Stangier, Esko; and Brandon Newman, a sophomore from Barnum.
Esko’s junior forward Kory Deadrick was named Polar League MVP.
“I think Kale and Colin have been the best 1-2 punch we have had in a long, long time,” said Viking Head Coach Mitch Dorr.
“These two guys have earned the respect of everyone in the conference with their outstanding and consistent play.
“Kale is the ultimate competitor. With 13 points, 10 rebounds, and over 5 assists per game there is nothing he can’t do on the court. In addition, he is one of our best defenders and as savvy of a player that I have coached.
“Colin is our go-to scorer having averaged over 21 points a game for us. His consistent ability to score really gave this team a huge lift this season as he was always up against one of the best defenders in the league every night.
“I am really proud of both of these young men. They have put time in and deserve all the praise and recognition they receive. It has been a blessing to work with Colin and Kale,” said Dorr.
While Kale recently signed a letter of intent to play football for University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), Everson, who carries a 3.9 grade point average (out of 4.0) has yet to decide on a college, but said he would probably pick basketball over football.
One thing for sure, Viking fans will miss Everson and Boomer on the hardwood court. They were highly skilled, defensively and offensively, and were good sports on the floor. Great representatives of Cook County, their families and Coach Dorr’s program. Boomer started all four years and Everson started the last three years.
