Eugene V. Pearson, 87, Hovland, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 in the Cook County North Shore Hospital.
He was born on April 16, 1927 to Clair and Alice (Weisz) in Jacksonville, Florida. Gene grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota.
After a medical discharge from the Army he worked his way through the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in agriculture.
He enjoyed his church, visiting with people, his coffee and American Legion groups in Grand Marais, gardening, cooking, and learning the Norwegian language. Gene had a lifelong interest in learning new things, reading, spending winters in Mexico and Arizona, polka music and dancing, and traveling with Marion.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Victor, Claude and John; his grandson Michael, and his brother Robert.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; five sons, Joseph, Louis, Andrew, Mark and Peter; five sisters, Alice Williams, Barbara Cavanaugh, Connie (Robert) Silkett, Claudia (Pat) Potestio, and Roberta as well as many relatives and friends.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais. A memorial service will also be held in Jordan, Minnesota at a later date.
