Ethel Leng, 101, of Grand Marais, devoted wife of the late Earl Leng, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
She was born on April 12, 1916 in Buffalo, New York where she grew up one of nine children; she worked at Duffield Agency in Buffalo before marrying. Moving to Grand Marais in 1945, she was a loving mother to her young family. Her many activities included Symphonians Music Club, Sawtooth Mountain Ski Club, Johnson Heritage Post Gallery, and First Congregational Church.
She was a welcoming presence at Leng’s Fountain, working beside Earl for over 40 years.
Ethel is survived by her son Dr. Richard Leng, his wife Deborah, Kensington, Conn.; daughter Sandra Leng Kashyap, Santa Fe, N.M.; granddaughter Hillary Giantonio, her husband Kenneth, Farmington Conn.; grandson David Leng, his wife Dr. Jennifer Cayer, Brooklyn N.Y.; great- grandchildren Graham Cayer Leng and Maddelena Ellen Giantonio; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Care Center physicians, nurses, aides, and staff for their compassionate and thoughtful care.
Calling hours will be held at First Congregational Church, Grand Marais, on Saturday, May 20 from 10-11 a.m., to be followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery will be private.
