Essentia Health seeking artists for Vision Northland project

Essentia Health and the Vision Northland project are partnering with Integrated Art Group, experts in health care art, to develop an engaging art collection that includes local and regional artists while reflecting Essentia’s values.

Essentia is a proponent of the arts and seeks to elevate Vision Northland with fine art created by artists from across our region. We know through evidence-based design that art has healing properties and enhances the hospital and clinic setting. We are looking for submissions that will help patients relax, as well as promote wellness and community. The art will offer a diverse and rich reflection of the creativity that abounds in this region.

Initial art submissions should be wall-mountable and reflect the artist’s style and medium; they do not have to be currently available works. If selected, artists will be given a timeline to complete new works. Some art may be site-specific commissions. Artwork should be appropriate for public health care settings. All art will be purchased unframed.

Preliminary submissions are due by October 1, 2021. If selected, artists will be contacted by February 1.

This unique opportunity calls for local and regional artists to submit works for potential inclusion. Artists must reside in or have ties to Minnesota, northern

Wisconsin or North Dakota. We are not seeking photographic images for this project. However, we encourage photographers to submit their work to be included in future projects. If you are interested in submitting your work, please use our online submission form. Please direct all inquiries or additional questions to Augusta Brulla at abrulla@integratedartllc.com or (608) 709-1453, Essentia’s Laura Pfenninger at Laura.Pfenninger@ EssentiaHealth.org or Essentia’s Kris Henry at Kristin.Henry@ EssentiaHealth.org.

THINK BIG: SCULPTURE AS CENTERPIECE FOR MAIN ENTRANCE

Essentia Health and Integrated Art Group also are seeking proposals — from a local or regional sculptor — for a focal-point sculpture that will reside in the center of the circular drive just outside the new facility’s main entrance.

Artists are asked to submit a proposal for a sculpture that will be highly visible. The design and materials proposed should invoke Lake Superior while welcoming visitors to the new hospital. Also, the sculpture should either be lit from the outside or should emit light itself.

Please submit preliminary concept sketches/ renderings, along with proposed materials and scale, budget and written description here (https:// airtable.com/shrbcP904RsHVsLhH) by Oct. 1.

Up to three artists will be selected to develop their idea into a more concrete vision. A stipend of $1,000 will be awarded for design work.

ABOUT VISION NORTHLAND

Essentia Health is making the largest private investment in Duluth’s history as it transforms its downtown medical campus. The new $900 million, 942,000-square-foot project will match Essentia’s facilities with how medicine is practiced in the 21st century and bring the highest quality health care to patients.

Vision Northland represents a major investment in Essentia Health’s mission as well as the future of Duluth and surrounding areas. The project demonstrates Essentia’s commitment to the health of its patients, the economic vitality of the community and the work environment for its staff. Patient care is expected to begin in the new hospital in the third quarter of 2023.
