Essa Jacobsen leads Lady Norse at Mesabi Range

Essa Jacobsen put up some astounding numbers while she was a member of the Cook County High School girls’ basketball program. Over a four-year period Jacobsen scored more than 1,000 points and pulled down more than 1,000 rebounds and helped the Cook County Vikings average 17 wins per season.

Today Jacobsen is a sophomore at Mesabi Range Junior College where she returns as a starting power forward for a strong Norse basketball team. The Lady Norse has begun practice and Essa has been voted captain of this year’s team.

Last year Jacobsen scored 225 points to be her team’s third highest scorer. She led her team in field goal percentage with 51.8 percent and was second in rebounds with 8.9 per game while helping her team to a 24-6 record. For her efforts Jacobsen was named to the Northern Division First Team and to the MCAC All-State First Team.

The Lady Norse advanced to the National

Junior College (JC) regional championship game and ended their year with the number one JC ranked defense in the country.

The daughter of John and Heidi Jacobsen, Grand Marais, Essa wears jersey number 13, an unlucky number for some, but a lucky number for the Lady Norse who can look to Essa to help lead them to another successful season.
