To the person reporting possible birch log theft on Firebox Road (see Cook County Law Enforcement report briefs, Thursday, June 15, 11:46 a.m.): A remote road in the Greenwood Lake area, maintained by U.S. Forest Service, to my knowledge no residential properties. We also noticed something unusual.
Hoping it wasn’t driven unlawfully, a Cook County SUV, marked but not as law enforcement, the only vehicle we incurred that day, with the exception of the trucker loading, hauling logs off the block “Big Wood” harvested.
Possible that it was a new employee familiarizing himself with the area. Had he rolled down the window and asked, saving us both suspicious thoughts, we would have spoken. Thanks for your diligence as we all work to make this county friendly and safe.
