The Cook County High School Envirothon team had a great showing at the competition at the Cloquet Forestry Center. The team advances to state competition at St. John’s University on May 19.
The Envirothon competition consists of five separate tests in the areas of water, current issues, soil, forestry, and wildlife. The second piece of the competition is an oral presentation.
Back in February the students received the Envirothon scenario. They were given the task to assist a farm in becoming more sustainable. The team members— Sophie Honeder, Aubry Lewis, Morgan Weyrens-Welch, Libby Zafft, and Andrew Thompson— researched options and presented a very thorough and well thought out plan for the farm.
Envirothon Coach April Wahlstrom was delighted with her team’s performance. Wahlstrom added a special thanks to Ilena Berg, Kerrie Berg, Connie Rasmussen, and Philip Larsen for helping the team to prepare.
