Now that the warmer weather has arrived, the residents at the Care Center have been enjoying a lot of time outdoors on the patio. Those who enjoy gardening have been busy filling our planters with flowers, while others are content to simply enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
In honor of Father’s Day, many residents, staff, and families participated in a unique tie activity to recognize and reminisce about their fathers. After choosing a tie that represented their dad, the name and a special thought were written on the tie. They were then displayed together as a tribute on Father’s Day. Thanks to everyone who donated ties for this special project!
July is National Picnic Month and Family Reunion Month, which means more families visiting and more outdoor fun.
July 4th will find the residents enjoying another picnic with all the fixings. We hope for a beautiful day. After the picnic, we’ll have a patriotic reminisce and sing-along.
Hilja’s Happy Hour will be on July 12 at 2:30 p.m. A patriotic theme will be featured with red, white and blue snacks and drinks.
The monthly birthday party will be held on July 13 at 3 p.m. to honor Cora Stevens and Lu Pettijohn. Lu is one of our centenarians and will be 103 on July 13! Cake and ice cream will be served along with favorite piano classics by Doug Sanders.
Other music this month will be performed by Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons, Al Fuller on Monday evenings, and Susan Scherer on Wednesday evenings. The band Portage will be back with its classic country music for a dance on Saturday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. Community members are always welcome!
A special musical performance will take place on Monday, July 25 at 2:30 p.m. “The Echos,” a four-piece group from Moose Lake, will play their country and gospel music at the Care Center.
The residents are hoping for a sunny day on July 21 when we will spend some time at Harbor Park to enjoy the lake, boats, seagulls, and tourists, while enjoying a favorite treat from the Dairy Queen. Another outing is also planned for lunch at the Senior Center.
Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers who continue to give their valuable time during these busy summer months.
