The Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) would like to share some encouraging news. As part of our mission to develop a local response to climate change and the global transition away from fossil fuel-based energy sources, our focus has been on energy efficiency, which is the best and most cost effective way to reduce the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions.
We are proud to report that since 2013, the CCLEP Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP) has encouraged 29 energy efficiency evaluations of local homes and businesses.
Of these 29 audits, 18 local home and business owners have completed energy improvements and received a program rebate. The energy improvements completed on these 18 projects have resulted in a $140,400.00 energy investment, with a total $17,280.00 energy cost savings. That’s an average of $960.00 per homeowner.
Overall, the work done on these 18 buildings has created the combined economic impact of $157,680.00.
Perhaps more exciting than the cost savings is the reduction in carbon emissions. Of the 18 completed audits, the reduced amount of carbon dioxide is 34,010 pounds (17 tons), which is approximately the volume of 17 ranch-style houses of 1,250 square feet.
As more and more people complete their audits, these numbers will continue to grow. We also want to remind you that any home, business or nonprofit in Cook County can take part in REEP.
