Encouraged by turnout at Tofte annual meeting

It was a real joy to see local government in action at the annual Tofte Township meeting on March 10 at Birch Grove School. The great turnout showed that people really are interested in the future of their town. I was very impressed by the number of young, working men and women who came to make their opinions count.

The first order of business was the senior housing project and many had the opportunity to present their questions and thoughts and have them addressed.

But the main event for many, if not most, of the people there, was the issue of financial support for Birch Grove School. After a motion was made and seconded to support the school with funding in the amount of $20,000, the vote was overwhelmingly in favor, with only two dissenting votes. It was a vote of confidence in the excellence of Birch Grove Community School—Public Charter School District No. 4145, and another chapter in the beautiful history of Tofte caring deeply about its children.

Greatly encouraged,
Marsha Hansen
