For six innings, the game against the Ely Timberwolves Senior Legion baseball team was close.
The boys from Cook County/Silver Bay hosted the Ely Timberwolves Legion baseball team here on Tuesday, June 27, and fell behind 3-0 after the first inning. Neither team scored in the second, and CC/SB pushed two runs across the plate in the third while giving up a run to Ely to make the score 4-2.
The Vikings scored one in the fourth while blanking Ely through the sixth inning. Trailing 4-3 in the seventh and final inning, the Vikings gave up eight big runs while scoring four in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
Ely left with a 12-7 victory that was closer than the final score would indicate.
The Vikings tallied six hits, two by Hunter Gomez, one each from J Shannon, Jake Stadler, Amos Falter, and R Shannon. Ely batters recorded eight hits. The Vikings walked eight times, while Ely batters received 13 walks.
Jake Stadler started and pitched 4.2 innings before being relieved by Ethan Tate. Jake allowed four runs off three hits, six walks, and six strikeouts. Tate gave up five hits, eight runs, and seven walks.
Ely committed three errors, while the Vikings had one error.
